Common Jab Errors

The following are common jab errors you may encounter:

  1. Lifting the rear foot off the ground will weaken your punch and make it more difficult to recover.
  2. Lowering your rear guard will not add to your power and will leave you open to a counterattack.
  3. Dropping your front shoulder will also leave you open. If you drop your front shoulder and your rear guard, your whole head will be exposed.
  4. If you cross your centerline you will be open to a rear hand counter.
  5. If you drop your front hand after you jab, you will also create an opening.
  6. If you raise your elbow you will weaken the punch and expose your ribs to a counterattack.
