General Jab Principles
Keep the following in mind when throwing a jab:
Keep relaxed as you throw the jab. Try to keep the biceps relaxed.
Do not focus your punch, instead hit through the target.
Do not cock your fist back before you punch, as this will telegraph the punch. Rather punch from where your hand is.
Make sure you cover your head with the rear hand. Depending on your relationship to your opponent, your cover can be on:
The left side of your head.
The right side of your head.
Remember you can angle your body as you punch. You can do this as you slip a punch or to make yourself a more elusive target:
Straight
Angle to the right.
Angle to the left.
You can hit to the inside or to the outside of your opponent's cover depending on how he covers.
The angle of the fist on impact can vary:
Vertical.
1/4 turn.
Horizontal.
3/4 turn.
Besides your fist you can hit with other areas of your hand:
Jab with side palm.
Jab with straight palm.
