Trapping is trained from the nucleus outwards. By nucleus we mean from trapping
range with touch. As a student becomes more proficient the distance is increased
to punching range. Then to bridging from kicking range, to punching range, to
trapping range. Then trapping should be combined with other fighting methods,

most fights end up in close range very quickly.
Trapping should also be trained with boxing gloves [or any other gloves] while
sparring.
Work on trapping with your eyes shut to increase sensitivity and awareness.
